Within our Dahlia Legacy Program, we’re honored to feature several different dahlias from hybridizer Glenn Gitts, who lives and creates right here in Whatcom County, Washington state.

Despite his obvious current love for creating and cultivating dahlias, Glenn hated flowers as a child… because he hated weeding! Growing up on a farm meant he had to work in the family garden, including his mother’s flower garden, and it was not his favorite task. However, as he got older, Glenn stayed to work in agriculture. He and his brother farmed several hundred acres together for years before Glenn began a second career at a local refinery.
As his mother got older, Glenn began caring for her dahlias and other flowers our of love for her, and his love for them (literally and figuratively) blossomed. He began hybridizing dahlias in the 2000s. In 2012 he introduced his first dahlia hybrid, GG’s Alessandro , and he now has over 16 named GG’s dahlias, including GG’s Ruby Tuesday, GG’s Aleisha, GG’s Orange Slice, and GG’s Flaming Desire, all of which will be available in Triple Wren’s upcoming fall/winter dahlia tuber sales. If you’re coming to the farm, be sure to check out a new sport of GG’s Ruby Tuesday which we have growing in row 21, to feast your eyes on something beautiful and new coming out of Glenn’s gardens!

At Triple Wren we grow out hybridizers’ creations on a large scale and market their dahlias to our customers all over the U.S. and Canada. This lets hybridizers keep on creating while we do the selling and cultivating, giving them more time to make more beauty to share in the world.
We’re also looking for new hybridizers to add to our program in future years. We want to unlock the treasury of dahlia creations from the past, and pave a path to success for future growers.
