Did you know that heat can affect the color of your dahlias?
It’s been super hot here at the farm and our plants have been experiencing a little bit of stress from the heat.
Our Bloomquist Simple plants are blooming their cute little heads off right now, and we noticed that the sun and warmth have affected their petals.

Here is how Bloomquist Simple starts out. It’s very vivid!

After a few days in the sun, they bleach to a much lighter color. It’s super pretty on Bloomquist Simple, but might not be as pretty on some other varieties of dahlias, depending on your taste.

This bud was really hot and the warmth has bleached out the tips of the petals.

In some cases, the heat was so much that it distorted the shape of the petals. Early in the season, the petals are having to weather a lot wider swing in temperatures, so early dahlias can look a little strange, but they will settle in after a little bit.

This heat bleaching is a fascinating phenomenon! Have you noticed it in your garden?
