We’re honored to feature in our Legacy Program many different dahlias hybridized by Steve and Sandy Boley of Birch Bay Dahlias. After growing and experimenting with dahlias for many years, Steve and Sandy’s first official dahlia introduction was released to the world in 1998. Since then they have made at least 90 dahlia introductions, with 5 more that are currently in trial gardens.

Some of our most popular customer favorites are from their fields! If you’ve ever been captivated by the beauty of a Sandia Brocade or Sandia Pouffe anemone-form dahlia, filled with joy at the sight of a fantastical Irish Blackhart or Ms. Lisa dahlia, found Irish Speckles or Irish Miss to be a perfect pompon finish to your bouquet, spied their new 2024 introduction Sandia Ruthie in our Instagram feed earlier this week, or enjoyed the waterlily gorgeousness of Sandia Shomei, Sandia Isa, Sandia Can Can, Sandia Bliss, Sandia Bertha, Sandia Susan (or another of their many beauties!), you know why Birth Bay Dahlias’ creations are so beloved. The Boleys are still busy hybridizing, and we are excited to continue carrying many of their varieties in the coming years as part of our Triple Wren offerings.

Here at Triple Wren, we’re passionate about bringing American-grown dahlia varieties (like the Boley’s!) to market. We partner with hybridizers, grow out larger quantities of their creations, market, sell, and distribute them, and through our Legacy Program we compensate the hybridizers as creators deserve to be compensated. It’s a beautiful system that puts more incredible varieties into American gardens, and we love that this is the work we get to do.
We’re also looking for new hybridizers to add to our program in future years. We want to unlock the treasury of dahlia creations from the past, and pave a path to success for future growers. If you would like more information about our upcoming Hybridizer Program, please email [email protected] and let us know.
