Our lives are filled with dahlias right now, despite the fact that it’s winter. Every day we’re either organizing and dividing the 50,000-ish tuber clumps we dug from our field last fall, or busy talking with the amazing hybridizers who created them. Today we’d like to highlight two of our Legacy Hybridizers–Steve and Sandy Boley of Birch Bay Dahlias.
The Boleys bought their property in Whatcom County, Washington in 1995 and have been hybridizing dahlias there ever since. Some of our most popular customer favorites are from their fields! If you’ve ever been captivated by the beauty of a dahlia that starts with Sandia, Irish, MS, or SB’s, you have Steve and Sandy to thank for that dahlia. ???? Fun fact: The Sandia prefix comes from the Sandia Mountains in New Mexico, which is a significant place to the Boleys. The Irish prefix is in honor of Steve’s Irish heritage.
The Boleys are very productive hybridizers, and we are thrilled to continue carrying many of their varieties as part of our Legacy Program.

New Birch Bay Dahlias at Triple Wren
Ms Beth

Ms Beth is a deliciously blush pink mini ball form dahlia with distinctive quilled and crinkled petals. ???? One of the earliest to bloom in our fields, this winsome pastel dahlia, with its high petal count and dense petal distribution, is incredible sturdy (blooms and stems). This sweet blush dahlia works well with any garden palette, for market bouquets, event design work, personal wedding flowers, and everything else we can imagine. It is a new 2025 introduction and is exclusively available from Triple Wren Farms this winter! Ms Beth, like all of the Birch Bay Dahlias hybrids at our farm, is part of our Legacy Collection.
Irish Trophy

Irish Trophy is such a dramatic, interesting dahlia. These open novelty-form blooms are almost black in the center and fade to a fuchsia-plum down the petals. With its strong, durable stems and a lovely plant habit, this 2025 introduction from Birch Bay dahlias is sure to become a favorite in your garden.
New Additions to the Legacy Collection in 2025

This year we’re sharing more Legacy dahlias than ever! In our upcoming Main Dahlia Tuber Sale, over 60% of the dahlia varieties on offer are part of our Legacy Program. We love connecting with our Legacy Program hybridizers and bringing their new, unavailable, or obscure varieties to your garden so that you can enjoy growing the incredible diversity of beauty they’ve created.
