Every year our business evolves. Some season-to-season changes are drastic, some more subtle. I’m a planner to my core, and most changes at Triple Wren go through a rigorous vetting and micro-planning process ???? but some of the *best* changes we’ve made have come though quickly capitalizing on unexpected opportunities. Spontaneity can be powerful!

No matter how we change, you can see a reflection of it in our Field Plan. We share beauty in specific ways, and we grow the flowers best suited to sharing that beauty. For example, as our events and weddings business expands, we put in more roses and woody perennials to suit that market. As our dahlia tuber market widens, we plant more dahlias and look for more cut flower wholesalers to purchase the summer blooms that result. It’s essential that our field plan flows with the needs of our farm. We plant tiny, easy-to-transport pumpkins in the back field, and put the ???????? jack-o’-lanterns where they work for u-pick traffic. We put the regularly-harvested ball dahlias and café au laits closer to the cooler than the experimental dahlia seedling patch. Always, we plant for function. Since we are welcoming guests to Flower Camp and several Open Farm events this summer, we plant with accessible aisles, laying out color in an attractive way, balancing all the functions of our farm.

When we add something new to our line up, it can’t jar the flow of everything else that’s happening, but needs to be a perfect fit for our farm life AND our family life. This wasn’t always the case! Once upon a time we said yes to every opportunity that came along, and while it was necessary for us to find our footing in the beginning, saying YES with abandon wore us thin. Every YES to one thing is a NO to another thing, since the minutes in each day are limited. Now we have a method to deciding what to add. You’ve likely already heard of lots of fun, fresh additions to our 2020 lineup (see posts from the past few weeks!), and tomorrow we’re announcing one more really special event. It’s one that’s very close to my heart, and completely new to our farm life, but we believe it’s the perfect fit, and can’t wait to share it with you!
