Sharing Beauty, Cultivating Connections

February 6, 2025

In the earliest years of Triple Wren Farms we grew flowers in the middle of an apple orchard, slinging buckets of blooms at a beautiful wholesale market in Seattle. We poured ourselves into the farmer-florist life: wholesaling thousands of dahlias and roses, flowering-up over 300 weddings between 2014-2019, and hosting festivals and workshops that brought our community together.

With years of growing under our belts, we thought this path would be ours indefinitely. But in 2020, like so many others, we faced an unexpected shift. Sixty scheduled weddings became just one, and we had to reimagine our future just to survive the 2020 growing season. We leaned into dahlias—planting an extra field of tubers and stepping into the extraordinary world of dahlia hybridizers.

That year, we launched our Legacy Program and began working with dahlia hybridizers—visionary growers who dedicate years (sometimes decades!) to developing new varieties, paying them royalties on every tuber we sell from their introductions. It was our way of expressing gratitude to the creators’ valuable work, and ensuring that their contributions to the dahlia world continue to flourish.

But we knew there was more we could do…

In 2024, we expanded our commitment by introducing our first class of Novice Hybridizers—a group of growers who have been experimenting with dahlia breeding but haven’t yet introduced their own named varieties. Through this program, we provide mentorship, growing space, and business guidance, helping them take the next step toward sharing their creations with the world.

Why does this matter so much to us?

Because innovation in the dahlia world doesn’t happen in isolation. Every beloved variety started as a single seedling in someone’s garden, nurtured by curiosity, patience, and an eye for beauty. By supporting hybridizers—both seasoned experts and new creators—we get to be part of that process. We get to help bring those first tiny sprouts of possibility into full bloom, and in turn, share them with gardeners who are eager to grow something extraordinary.

This work is at the heart of what we do. We don’t just grow flowers; we grow connections. And with every new hybrid, every seedling-turned-stunner, and every gardener who falls in love with a bloom they’ve never seen before, we’re reminded why we started this journey in the first place.

Looking back, there were so many moments when building this farm business felt impossible—times when we weren’t sure if we could keep going. Now, as we take another leap into uncharted territory with the exciting new chapter of Triple Wren Farms Canada, I carry these truths with me: hard things are worth doing, growth comes from the struggle, and the best stories begin when we decide to keep going.

We’d love to hear from you, too. What hard things are you tackling this year? Are you standing at the edge of something new, wondering if you should take the leap? If so, we encourage you—take those first steps, explore the possibilities, and don’t stay in limbo too long. You might be surprised by the adventure waiting for you.
