The sunny days are more frequent now, and highs are in the 40’s and 50’s at the farm. We’re preparing for a fantastic new season, and can’t wait to share it with you! Even though we’re busy here, and adding new things to our farm line-up, it’s so easy for us to slide right into the implementation phase of our spring prep – all because we have a solid PLAN to work from. The most FAQ’s we receive at Triple Wren all revolve around how to market flowers and and how to grow what will sell. So this week I’m sharing for 5 days in a row about the major steps that work for us in creating a flower farm Business Plan that is 100% useful and practical. Follow along if you have questions about what we do, and I believe it will be helpful for you. First of ALL – once you to make the decision that it’s time to start, then you need to start. No matter what level you’re at in business, it’s way too easy to be paralyzed by fear and freeze. Guess what? I’m afraid of what I don’t know… I’m afraid I haven’t listened to enough podcasts from experienced teachers, and I’m afraid I might have missed a step in my planning. It’s not that I was just afraid like that in the beginning! I’m *still* afraid and I have to decide to act instead of freezing up. I’m afraid of different things now than I was in the beginning, but the truth is that that fear many never go away. Do we plan for everything to our best ability? Absolutely. Are the chances of something going awry despite our best plans pretty high? Well, yes. Absolutely. So we decided in the beginning to make a plan, fight towards making it happen with all our hearts and abilities, and then dealt with problems as they came up. This tactic has served us very well. Start where you are, make an educated plan for what you want to achieve this season, and march forward.

If this resonates with you today, if you are ready for the epic battle with the earth that can result in it giving you back the pure, lush beauty, if you’re ready to dig deep into your grittiest places to find the strength and endurance for marathon seasons of work and creativity, if you’re ready to figure out the mysteries of small business details, if you have a strong soul and a determined heart, then I have a task for you. Write down on an actual piece of paper your top 3 goals for your flower operation this year. You may need to practice growing in your soil to understand your microclimate, start conversations with local buyers, gather resources, find helpers, learn new methods of propagation, make $20,000, figure out how to germinate larkspur, buy a truck, or organize your personal life. For each of us the season’s goals are unique and that’s as it should be. But write them down, and then you’ll be ready for the next step I’ll share here tomorrow.
If you’d like to share your #1 goal in the comments here, do it! We are cheering for you and can’t wait to see what you’re cooking up.
