Today we’d like to highlight the very first hybridizer of our Legacy Hybridizer Program. In fact, we started the Legacy Program just for him! In 2017, Steve met Paul Bloomquist at a local Dahlia Society meeting, and over the years they became friends. Paul is a dahlia celebrity in our corner of the world because he has a lifetime of hybridization experience and knowledge to share. He’s been hybridizing dahlias for decades, and the sheer number of beautiful dahlias he has created is astounding. Steve realized, through talking with Paul, that Triple Wren Farms could help Paul move his creations out into the world in a bigger way, and through their collaboration, our Legacy Program was born.
We started our Legacy Program in 2019 with only 7 dahlias, including the much-beloved Bloomquist Alan and a farm-crew-favorite Bloomquist Jody Lynn. In our upcoming U.S. Dahlia Tuber Sale we’ll have several new Bloomquist dahlias in our collection! They aren’t new to the world, but we’re so happy to have them for the first time at Triple Wren! Paul is still busy hybridizing, so we plan to keep adding even more of his varieties every year. For our 2024 growing season, we’re offering 150 Bloomquist varieties, plus varieties from other Legacy hybridizers. In fact, over 60% of the dahlia varieties in our shop are part of our Legacy Program!
We are only able to continue our Legacy Program because of amazing flower friends like YOU, who purchase and grow these heritage-rich dahlias. We’ve all been given an incredible heritage of dahlia beauty to use and enjoy, and we want to express our thankfulness to the hybridizers of the dahlias we grow and sell.
