This summer we grew out thousands of our own tissue culture rooted dahlia cuttings so that we could compare varieties grown from cuttings with varieties grown from tubers. Here’s what we found:
????The varieties that were grown from cuttings flowered before the tuber grown dahlias.
????The cuttings-grown plants were just as vigorous as the tuber-grown plants.
????Both types of plants grew to the same size and bloomed with the same productivity.
????Our cuttings-planted varieties grew true to form, and the blooms were the same size as the tuber-planted varieties.
????Both types of dahlias were super healthy, attracted pollinators ????, and are now setting seeds!
Soon we’ll start digging tubers and we’ll compare the tuber clumps from rooted cuttings-planted dahlias with the tuber-planted dahlias. Keep an eye out to see what we dig up! ????
