Sometimes I wonder, “What if we never started? What if we didn’t take the risks, embrace the hard days, run towards the scary parts?
What if we had missed out on all the beauty and joy and thrill of growing a business that is this special??”
Thankfully…. I’ll never know “what if” those things, because we did start, and we did chase our dreams.

I started Triple Wren in the spring of 2012, with just a few 100’ x 4’ rows in a field that we were borrowing. I dove in head first and direct sowed all kinds of seeds because I was so excited about the idea of growing flowers.
Earlier that year I’d walked into a public library with my tiny children, and found a beautiful display of agricultural business books. At the top of the pyramid was a book by a woman named Lynn Byczynski. It was called The Flower Farmer, and I took the book home… and devoured it. I dug into other resources and jumped into the beautiful rabbit hole of Floret Flowers’ burgeoning website, and before I knew it, I’d fallen completely in love with growing flowers. As winter faded, I started dreaming about what *I* could grow beyond my small trellis of sweet peas, patch of spring poppies, and summer zinnias.
I jumped in wholeheartedly, learned a LOT by trial & error, and within 18 months, my husband Steve and I were farming together full time.
Within 4 years we were able to purchase our own farm, and now here we are: entirely unlikely flower farmers.
We own about 22 acres, and we currently farm about 12 of it. We’ve gone on a journey from super-beginners who knew nothing about farming, to a place where we can call our business successful. Our farm business now supports other families as well as our own, and we’re able to intentionally not just grow our business, but also do good with our business.

I feel, aside from God’s amazing grace and the generous help/advice we’ve received from so many dear friends & colleagues, that the key to our success has been the way that we PLAN for success. We plan everything, from using our space well (what we’ll plant where, and when), what we’ll do with what we grow, how we’ll maximize our crops (cuts + seed production, event backdrops, etc.) to how we grow our garden from year to year.
We shared all the details of our planning processes and how they apply to any flower gardener in our online community, The Garden. We’re hosted 2 weeks of daily Live Trainings on our How to Plan for Success in your Garden, and I’d love to have you along for the adventure. These classes were recorded and posted in The Garden so that community members can watch and re-watch as often as they’d like, and post comments and questions throughout the season in the community.
Members of the Garden have access to our new e-course “Anyone Can Grow Dahlias,” regular Live Training (we’ve already covered Fall Dahlia Garden Care, Dahlia Disease ID/Handling, and Dahlia Tuber Storage), exciting flash sale and dahlia trial opportunities, and first access to our dahlia tuber sales! You can find more information about The Garden on our website, or email [email protected] with any questions you have.

Seriously, so many of you have supported our family farm this season. Your purchases make a huge difference to our family and to our crew, and we are incredibly thankful for you.
