Variety Comparison: Irish Candy and Irish D Porter

These two beautiful hybrids from Birch Bay Dahlias are similar, and but they have some lovely differences…. but the main thing they have in common is how very much dahlia fans want to have them in their gardens!

Irish Candy is a slightly larger pom pom form dahlia than its cousin Irish D Porter, which also has softer pink color palette. Irish Candy is also a bit more vigorous than Irish D Porter here at the farm, and it tends to make more tubers for us. Both dahlias however are bountiful bloomers, continually giving nice, strong stems when harvested regularly. (Remember with dahlias, the more you cut, the more they bloom!)

What other differences/similarities do you see in these two, and which would you most love to grow? ????

If you ever visit Triple Wren Farms for an event, you’ll be able to see the 700-ish named varieties we’ve collected for our fields, plus many trial dahlias and our own seedlings. The gorgeousness of it all is worth the trip, but also it is so helpful and useful to be able to compare similar plants and blooms side by side for color, form, habit, height, vigor, and to observe how they change throughout the season.
