On Letting Go of Rigidity

As our farm business plans expand and morph, I can see them reflected in our flower fields. They’re a beautiful echo of the direction we’re headed. And isn’t this a familiar echo?! We often set out with our best-laid plans, but desires, abilities, resources, markets, all can change in an instant. If we’re smart, we pivot right with the changes and learn to thrive in a new set of circumstances.

This time last year, I pulled up eight 200 foot beds of beautiful perennials and relocated or gave them away to make room for more dahlia tubers. This year we’re pulling up the rest of that field, including these amazing thornless rose hips, to make more room for more dahlias, and we’re using them to create a hedge row and natural fence to more clearly define our visitor parking area this summer.

The changes are exciting, because I know they mean more people will enjoy the beauty we’re building here at the farm, but also a little bittersweet, as I think about all the circumstances and decisions that have surrounded our growth.

Sometimes it takes my breath away to step back and see the way life goes!

{We bought these thornless rosehips years ago, and they were sold as part of the magical series — I believe magical gold and magical pearls. From what I know, they are not currently available.}
