Farmer florist. ???? This title holds such a magical allure for so many people, especially so many women, in our current American culture. The idea of wrestling and dancing with the earth and its seasons, drawing the pure beauty of lush blooms and graceful stems out, digging deep into our grittiest places to find the strength and endurance for marathon seasons of work and creativity, and figuring out the mysteries of marketing, logistics, accounting: altogether it’s a challenge fit only for the sharpest minds, strongest souls, and most determined hearts. It’s no surprise that I feel such a kinship to this tribe of farmers, many of whom have left another career or path to pursue the beauty and fierce dignity of farmer-floristry. We are a tribe of like-minded fighters. Through my farming journey, I’ve seen a major personal evolution from working harder to working smarter, from self-sacrifice to self-care. The lessons I’m still learning about balance and organization are heavy on my heart, and I’m burning to share them here in this space but also in person at our Flower Camps this summer.
Today’s the last day to apply for our Camp Scholarships, and then Registration for these special events opens on Friday, February 14, at 8:00AM.
Come spend time with our Crew as we talk through these deep waters, intensively learn about cut flowers growing and delve into design. We hope to see you soon at the farm!
